Gus Anastasakis
In Memory of Gus Anastasakis
Gus Anastasakis will be remembered as a devoted family man, a trusted colleague, and a passionate trade unionist whose commitment to working people left a lasting mark on COPE Local 397.
As Treasurer of COPE 397, Gus served the membership with care, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility. He took great pride in the work of the union and in ensuring it remained strong, accountable, and grounded in its purpose: standing up for workers. His dedication was not just reflected in the role he held, but in the values he carried—fairness, solidarity, and respect for others.
Gus approached union life with both seriousness and warmth. He was known for his commitment, his steady presence, and a sense of humour that brought people together, even in challenging moments. He believed deeply in the importance of collective action and never lost sight of the people the union exists to serve.
Above all, Gus was a family man. He cared deeply for his wife, Alisa, his children, and his beloved granddaughter, and spoke of them with pride. The love he held for his family was evident in everything he did.
Gus’s passing is felt profoundly by those who had the privilege of working alongside him and calling him a friend. His legacy lives on in the strength of the union he helped steward and in the many lives he touched through his kindness, dedication, and unwavering belief in dignity at work.
He will be remembered with gratitude, respect, and affection.
