Who We Are

COPE Local 397 represents members in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta. We have 7 units representing approximately 1,800 members. Their work includes Office and Professional Employees. We organize for change and social justice and believe that Together We Are Stronger!

Kim Wilson – President

As a new employee of SGI, I became a member of OPEIU on August 19, 1991. In June of 2004 our union broke away from OPEIU and proudly formed the COPE National Union. Our new local was COPE 397. While working at SGI, I was active with the Union and served as a Shop Steward for 16 plus years advocating for the membership. I was promoted through the ranks at SGI and became an Out-of-Province Auto Adjuster. While in this position, my desire grew to be more active within the Union.

I attended The National Convention in 2010 as a spectator and then as a delegate to the Mid-Term Conference in Ottawa. In September 2012, I became a Trustee on the Executive Board and a Prairie Council Member. I was also chair of the Women’s Committee during this time. It was in 2013, while attending the National Convention in Winnipeg that my desire and commitment to the Union grew and I decided that I was going to run for President of COPE Local 397.

I was honored to be officially elected as President of COPE Local 397 on December 4, 2013. I was re-elected in 2016 and again in 2018. I am currently Vice-President for Region 3 on the National Executive, Vice-President representing COPE 397 on the SFL Executive Council, and I sit on numerous committees within our Local and the Canadian Labour Congress.

Together We Are Stronger!

Terri Homeniuk – Recording Secretary

I was born in Regina, SK and have lived here all my life. I have three children: Keenan (21), Kaya (11), and Katrya (8). I started with SGI in January 2004 in the Auto Claims Department as a clerk and moved up to my current position as an Out of Province Auto Adjuster. I recently became more involved with my Union and in January 2019, I was elected as the Recording Secretary. I look forward to my new position and the opportunities that it will bring.
